Hendred Vineyard
We're delighted to be stocking wine from Hendred Vineyard, just about 2 miles up the road from us! Hendred Vineyard is on the sloping ground to the west of the village of East Hendred, one of the spring line villages in the Vale of the White Horse. Over the years, award-winning still and sparkling wines have been produced from grapes grown here.
The vineyard was originally established almost fifty years ago, by the pioneering McKinnon family. It flourished with help from local expert Biagio Grillo and now covers approximately three acres consisting of Pinot Noir, Seyval Blanc, Madeleine Angevine and Bacchus varieties. The Bell family acquired the vineyard in 2014 and continue to develop it. Philippe Desaint, originally from the South of France, brings dedication and creativity to maintenance and improvement projects on the site.
The wine is a reflection of the excellent ‘terrior’ driven by the nutrient rich soil, sunny and breezy aspect provided by the Oxfordshire countryside. Add the boutique vineyard philosophy of hands on, attentive farming and the product is superbly clean and succulent grapes. The quality of the wine speaks for itself. Set in the characterful Oxfordshire village of East Hendred, is one of the oldest English vineyards and continues to produce fine wines for the local community to enjoy.
