Meat

Our butchery team is ready and waiting to serve you a wide range of butchery products - our own beef, which we insist is hung for at least a month, our own lamb, local pork and sausages made onsite, and succulent free-range chicken which is carefully sourced from Holly Farm in Worcestershire.  Our butchers offer a traditional service and will happily offer you any advice required on cooking or serving suggestions - they will be pleased to cut meat to the size or thickness required.

 

The beef and lamb is ‘born and bred’ on our farm at West Hagbourne, just a few miles from the farm shop.  You may notice some of the livestock during the summer months grazing in fields near the fruit orchards around the parish of Harwell.  Many of the cattle spend their summer in the river meadows at Clifton Hampden.  We grow almost all of the winter fodder for the livestock ourselves – grass for hay, maize and lucerne for silage, so we can be confident that the cattle are eating well.  We work with our neighbouring farmers to source supplies of straw for bedding in exchange for a valuable by-product – farm yard manure! The beef cattle are a mixture of pedigree bulls – we have two, a Charolais and a Simmental - crossed with our cows, themselves a mixture of continental and Hereford ancestry.
